With his melodic guitar tones and sorrowful vocals… it’s easy to understand why he’s been nominated for four BRIT Awards (2016), including the British Breakthrough Award. From right outside of London, James Bay started out just playing his guitar and singing in pubs when he was 16. He says he got enough drunks to “shut up and listen” to continue to want to do what he was doing.
Since that time he’s definitely tapped into and captured some raw emotion and soul in his work, which can probably best be heard through his song “Let It Go” (don’t worry, it’s not a cover from Frozen) off his debut album Chaos in the Calm.
If you’re in the mood for something just as soulful but with a little more kick, check out “Hold Back The River.” It starts out with his distinct tone, then backed by a heavy kick drum, the song picks up and floods into a mix of melodic rock. Give it a listen!
He’s currently finishing up a European tour but will be heading to the US in April. He’ll be playing Coachella and a few other shows in California throughout the month. If you get the chance, GO. You can get tickets and see his tour dates right here www.jamesbay.com/live/
